Inside the Toxic Cloud

Having avoided the Diwali festival by bunking off to Thailand, 

we find ourselves returned to the post apocalyptic scenery of Autumn in Delhi.

 Today’s AQI for New Delhi is over 400. 

That is classed as “hazardous” by the authorities.

So I’ll be mostly staying indoors, giving me a chance to catch up on the blog and post some scenes from more breathable times.

 

Direct line to Allah?

This old Mosque is actually still in use. 

With a view of one of the city’s more famous landmarks 

from the high period of Muslim rule in North India, 

the Qutub Minar, one might expect this place of worship to be well patronised.

I was surprised to find anyone using it at all.

While not actually falling apart, 

it looks from outside to have been turned over to nature. 

Certainly there are pigeons that regard it as a sanctuary 

- and possibly monkeys too!

There is a family of monkeys that is often seen at the Mosque entrance.

One of the great clichés of India surrounds the freedom of various animals 

to roam unmolested through the hustle and bustle of the general population.

The Cows are well known over the world - 

I can’t count the number of bovine induced traffic jams we’ve experienced - 

they can even be dangerous!

My current favourite urban animal story is this family of pigs 

that live in a storm drain I sometimes pass on my way home. 

 So Cute!

 And the old garbage patch is still very popular.
