Festivals
As I mentioned in an earlier post, India has many, many festivals and “holy
days” (also holidays, but you don’t always get a day off work for a religious
special day).
Between the fistful of popular religions – Hindu, Islamic, Christian, Buddhist,
Sikh – and the great and long history of the Indian nation and the people of
the Indian subcontinent, there is always something for people to remember or
observe.
Right now, we’re coming up to Diwali.
It’s kind of Christmas for non-christian Indian people. Stores are
promoting their wares with big Diwali sales. People decorate their homes and
workplaces with lights and golden flowers.
It is a time of gift giving and celebration, firecrackers and parties.
Like Christmas for followers of Jesus, Diwali observes a significant event
in the origin story of India.
People also worship their Gods on that day, and one Goddess in
particular, Lakshmi.
The Goddess Lakshmi.
Very popular among the Elephant community.

Loving it Matty. What job are you doing in India? (Bicycle steel courier?)
