Steel Delivery
Has it been ten days already?

We just had a long weekend, four days – four dry days.
For some reason, the authorities here take any and all opportunity to ban liquor sales, so national holidays lack one key ingredient that most foreigners would take for granted.
We survived by stocking up in advance and spending a couple of nights in Hotel the Royal Plaza, in the city.
There’s another “dry day” coming up this Sunday. I can’t remember the occasion, but like I said, any reason will do.

The Picture gives you some idea of the décor of Hotel the Royal Plaza
(that's if the pretentious syntax of the name - hotel THE royal plaza - didn't give you any hint).

Gold leaf and marble all over.

Back on to the topic, though….

Anybody need some steel?

Steel is good stuff, until recently we lived in a “steel town”, right down from one of the biggest steel works in the world.

Let’s say, hypothetically, that you were in need of some steel. Maybe you are building some sort of concrete structure (lots of people are doing it), and you needed several metres of reinforcing bar, you know, to make it strong.

I know a guy…….
For some reason, steel seems always to be delivered by bicycle here.
You have to feel for those steel biking guys, they probably don’t get paid anywhere near the salary of a Tour de France team member.

There are very few large trucks on the roads here. Mainly due to the governments pollution control measures. Almost all work vehicles are powered by natural gas. It’s actually a triumph of regulation (up there, some might contend, with the draconian restrictions on liquor sales).

Sadly, Delhi’s air quality will still get worse over the next few months, causing illness to many and discomfort to all (so I have been warned).
We’re not looking forward to that.

That’s all for now. Your steel is on its way to you at top speed.

It may take a while.
But good things (and bad things... everything really) always do, here.
