Further Pic's and Rambling
A Taste of Tea and Indian Jesus
My
kids’ preschool had their Christmas party (early) at the beginning of this
month. Everyone had a lovely time, we played Bingo!
There
were crafts and games, a little Indian woman in a Santa costume, frightening
the children with her enthusiasm.
And…
A
lovely little Nativity scene.
Complete
with giant baby Jesus.
I
guess I never thought about India as a particularly Christian country, Indian
people are certainly super religious. They have gods and gods, of all stripe
and colour, as well as the more organised Islamic and Buddhist traditions.
There
are plenty of churches here too, I know of people who attend, religiously, every
Sunday.
And
one of the most famous nuns ever is, of course Mother (Saint) Teresa of
Calcutta (actually a Romanian immigrant, but worked miracles for the popularity
of her creed in the sub-continent).
Personally
I’m cynical about religion, but I have to say, this is probably the most
accurate portrayal of baby Jesus’ skin colour you will see this Christmas.
Tea
Time!
Of
course India has tons of tea, and of course they like to spice it up.
Personally,
I’m enjoying the Masala chai blend, Assam
tea with cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, pepper, clove…..
Tea
with curry powder in it, basically – but very nice to drink.
I
had a laugh when I saw these teas in the organic store. “Keep Calm”, indeed. Unfortunately they were all sold out of “Carry On”.
