An Illness Interrupts our Idyll

Okay, no we can’t claim to be living an idyllic lifestyle,
cloistered in the heart of India’s capital but finally, at least,
the intense heat and rain of *Indian summer has passed.

Unfortunately, before we could celebrate the coming seasonal change,
we were hit by a new challenge.
Mrs Davis was apparently bitten, at some point around three weeks ago,
by the dreaded Aedis aegypti, yellow fever mosquito and developed
Dengue fever as a result.
Not Pleasant.

I remember years ago seeing on TV shows or in films
(I can’t remember which exactly), actors pretending to have some sort of
tropical disease that caused fever. They would groan and writhe and sweat
and appear on the edge of death, apparently for days on end.
I always thought they were exaggerating.
Actually not.

It really is that bad - to watch, at least.
Having not experienced it myself, I can only report on the patient who was
in my, admittedly ham-fisted, care.
Wave after wave of high fever, nausea, muscle pain and the most severe
headaches. It was a nightmare to witness (and certainly worse for the
victim).
Six days of trips to the hospital, several kilograms of paracetamol and
countless hours of groaning and wishing for death.
And gradual, eventual recovery.
Yesterday, about two weeks after the peak of the symptoms, my darling
finally reported that she was feeling 100% well again.

Needless to say, our anti mosquito measures have been stepped up.
Seeing our strongest family member reduced to immovable lump of moaning
humanity, has made me fear for the children - who it must be said were very good throughout their mother's ordeal.
As for myself. I doubt I would survive.
On a happier note, tomorrow is my birthday - 43 for anyone still counting.
No gifts, please.
I will go to visit Hamayun's Tomb again. This time in the evening.
The tomb is much like the Taj Mahal (less romantic in it's conception but better looking imo), with a dome of white marble that has been lined with clear led lighting to make it glow like the moon at night.
